Working
with schools to improve on their systems,
policies
and practices to address bullying, racism,
and
exclusions.
In
this respect GCRE has set up a Parents Support
Network
to make the development of the above
relevant
to the needs of the local parents and also to
provide
feedback to schools. Recruitment of members to
this
Network continues and a schedule of meetings has
been
set up.
This
Network will also support the recruitment of BME
parents
to the local school governing bodies. Through
this
programme, a Black Governors Support Forum has
been
established and their capacity building needs will
be
assessed and met through an appropriate training
and
support programme.
Project
consultation and implementation structures:
Over
the year we have had quarterly Advisory Panel
meetings
during which members have made useful
contribution
to the overall objectives of the project.
Through
the panel, the project has been able to build the
needs
of the LEA, community and schools, into its
implementation
process.
Partnership
work with other Agencies
To
improve cross-cultural relationships within young
people,
we worked in partnership with the PCT cancer
research
unit and Asian Health Project to stage a drama
event.
This included recruitment of young people from
various
ethnic backgrounds, training them and
supporting
the staging of the event. In addition to cross
cultural
relations, the young people acquired various
acting
and communication skills, which were recognised
through
award of certificates signed and presented by
the
Mayor of Greenwich.
Working
with Councillors, Local Authority agencies and
Community
Leaders, we contributed to the resolution of
one
case in a local school involving a conflict between
the
school Administration panels and local community.
Working
with an officer from CARE partnership, we are
developing
a school-based programme to identify the
needs
of young people in education in relation to
bullying,
racism and anti-social behaviour and
developing
programmes with schools to address them.
Internally,
the project is working with RAMU to
implement
a variety of race related trainings in schools.
